If you’re struggling with seeing results, this one’s for you! Which one of these do you relate to more?
Situation 1: You’re a newbie and feel “frozen” since a healthy lifestyle feels like a foreign language. You’re overwhelmed by all the info out there & don’t know what the best first move is.
Situation 2: You’re frustrated because you HAVE tried MANY things; the diets, workout plans, and even worked with other trainers & coaches. You either see minimal results, or can’t stay consistent…or both! You feel like “something is missing” but don’t know what that is.
Whether you’re in Situation 1 or 2:
I FEEL YOU. You’re not alone!
Breaking the Cycle
I’ve seen this time after time…women saying they want to get fit and healthy, so they start *Googling everything*. This leads them to trying fad diets, trendy workouts, supplements, that MAY work short term, but usually leaves you back to feeling overwhelmed.
I’m here to tell you that it’s NOT your fault.
It’s not that you need to just “try harder”. You just need a different approach, that’s EFFECTIVE, SUSTAINABLE and COMPREHENSIVE.
You might be spinning your wheels because of…
Negative mindset
Unrealistic expectations
No specific goals
No structured plan
Lack of accountability
Lack of professional help
So…Maybe you feel like you’ve tried everything –
But HAVE you used a functional medicine, holistic approach to improving your metabolism, hormone levels & fat loss efforts?
A Holistic Approach
Here are 10 things you should consider, that might seem a bit “different” but that is the point – you need to look past the “norm” of what everyone else might be telling you.
- Optimize your Gut Health: Our gut regulates our hormones, affects our fat burning & metabolism, even our mood & energy. A healthy gut will improve everything else!
- Support your Liver: Make sure your detox pathways (liver, lymph, gut, skin) are clear, or else excess hormones (and the potential for other inflammation) will get circulated & stored in the body.
- Quit intense fasting: Most women benefit from a 12-15 hour fast; anything longer than that on a consistent basis can increase cortisol, halting our metabolism & can cause hormones to go haywire.
- Eat the right ratio of protein & carbs: We need protein, but we also need carbs too…but just in the right amount. Too little & it’s a stress to the body, and too much causes us to store it as extra fuel/body fat. It should be based on your age, body composition and activity/exercise levels.
- Avoid dirty foods: As in…non organic produce and animal products, because these are filled with chemicals disrupting our own hormones. Be picky & go for pasture raised, antibiotic hormone free, organic whenever possible.
- Get up and walk more: We are more sedentary than EVER and easy physical activity (called NEAT) plays a BIGGER role in improving our metabolism than that hour workout you might have done. Aim to move all day long – set a step goal, do stretches, park far away – it all adds up.
- Get off your Devices (and use Blue Light Filters): Staying up on bright light screens will change the release of certain hormones, causing a second wind, making it harder to fall & stay asleep. This leads to poor (quality) sleep, which we know how sleep affects our energy, hormones, focus & more.
- Quit the Fragrance & Clean Up your Products: Ingredients like BPA, phthalates, parabens & more are hormone disrupting chemicals, found in cleaning, personal care, makeup supplies and even kitchen utensils, cookware, etc. These have a DIRECT impact on your physiology!
- Get a Water Filter: If we are 70% water, then we should make sure our water doesn’t have heavy metals, chemicals, hormones etc in it, right? My favorite is AquaTru, but look at others that have a reverse osmosis filtration.
- Do Metabolic Training: Cardio and strength sessions are great, but what about combining them? If you want to maximize time, consider a circuit with full body strength & cardio moves combined. Keeping it 30-45 min max at 3-4x week & you can boost your results without adding too much stress on your body.
Above all – work on establishing specific habits that you can maintain over time. They might not seem like that much in the beginning, but this is where the *magic* is when it comes to long term results!
You deserve to feel confident in not only your body but also knowing what you’re doing works. You don’t need to do this alone. Let me take the guesswork out of the equation & work through these factors together!
