August, 2024
I know you’re out there…you’re THIS close to giving up. You say “Why even bother anymore??”You’re tired of putting in the work & not seeing the results you want.
This could be not losing weight, not making progress in your workouts, feeling fatigued and unmotivated.
Weight Loss Myths
So why ARE you spinning your wheels?!
Negative mindset
Unrealistic expectations
Incorrect information
No specific goals
No structured plan
Lack of accountability
Lack of professional help
Many women also fall for the lie that we just need to “exercise more and eat less”.
Sure, this might work SHORT TERM, but it is not sustainable, healthy, or actually going to give you the long-lasting results you want and deserve.
Many current weight-loss tactics…
are most likely ruining your metabolism and harming your health 😳😬
Let’s break the myth that calories alone will dictate your weight.
What does? Calories AND your hormone levels will affect how you look, feel and function.
The Two Main Hormones
Hormones will dictate how our body USES the calories – should we burn em for energy, or store them for fat?
The two main hormones, Cortisol and Insulin, will directly impact your ability to burn fat!
Cortisol will affect how our body processes food, sugar & affects our other hormones, it’s frenemy Insulin.
Insulin is affected by how much & how often we eat + our activity level.
Elevated cortisol & insulin = recipe for fat gain or weight loss resistance.
This is why you could be:
-Eating less and not seeing results
-On a diet that worked for a friend, but not for you
-In your 40s or early 50s and hormone changes with perimenopause & menopause are affecting your body
As women, we’re focused on cardio and intimidated by strength training (and the fear of getting BIGGER from it). You try Keto, only after a few weeks to be miserable and go binge that next weekend. You’ve even considered medication or pills, because something has GOT to work, right?
When the body is under chronic stress, the brain increases cortisol, and other hormones decrease, such as thyroid and metabolic function, irregular blood sugar is dysregulated and even wonky sex hormones—and as a direct result, weight-loss is not even a consideration for the body to tackle!
This combined with chemical exposure and poor detox pathways, digestive issues and gut imbalances, plus the every day stress we place on ourselves to be Superwoman, leaves us with a recipe for feeling like CRAP and not seeing any physical changes 😣
Top Tips For Weight Loss
Let’s go over what to AVOID:
- Undereating and only focusing on calories
- Eating foods that are raising internal inflammation & stress
- Doing only cardio
- Doing inconsistent strength sessions that aren’t at the right intensity
- Staying up late, working or on social media
- Taking random supplements from Amazon
Instead, we should use THIS approach:
- Eat enough food, with balanced macros to provide fuel & energy
- Cut back on/cut out foods high in inflammatory response: gluten, processed sugar, dairy and vegetable oils
- Start paying attention to portions, specifically protein, & avoid mindless eating
I’d also focus on:
- Have consistent strength sessions, designed for YOUR body, with enough intensity to promote muscle growth and definition
- Took strategic cardio and staying physically active all day long
- Schedule in down time & keep stress levels in check
- Take personalized, quality supplements
- Pay attention to hormone levels
Lastly, I would:
- Design a plan, focused on healthy habits and a sustainable routine, to get results that LAST long term
- Have an accountability and support system, to stay motivated and consistent
Why do all of these matter?
Eating enough protein and doing strength training will promote lean muscle mass growth, which is crucial for a healthy metabolism.
They will also trigger certain hormones in the body to help burn fat, increase satiety and improve glucose sensitivity (aka how well your body utilizes carbs as fuel vs storing them as fat)
Everything changes when we learn how to work with our body and hormones!
If you’re struggling, I highly recommend you learn HOW to work with your body, metabolism, and hormones.
Recap
Calories DO matter but HORMONES will control how they are being used in the body.
We must focus on Optimal Hormones if we want to be a healthy weight, but also have steady energy, focus and no cravings.
Which hormones? Start with Cortisol and Insulin!
